At Cape Gloucester Eco-Resort, every step of planning and construction of the exceptional qualities of the natural environment and its location within the World Heritage Great Barrier Reef Marine Park has been paramount.
1. During the construction process every attempt was made to retain the existing bush.
2. All water is recycled and used to irrigate the native gardens surrounding the resort buildings. A large dam was constructed on the mountain to collect and store water. Additionally, every roof in the resort collects precious rainfall into tanks.
3. Quiet recreational activities are encouraged including kayaking and sailing, bushwalking and beachwalking, and swimming in our beautiful pool or the bay. You can take a boat to a deserted beach for a picnic lunch or dine in our open air restaurant surrounded by natural bush with views to the Coral Sea.
4. Where-ever possible detergents and solvents are not used, environmentally friendly alternatives are sought.

5. The pool is salt water clorinated and refilled using filtered ocean water.
6. Sewage is treated on site using a a Biocycle waste management system
7. While air-conditioning is available in all the accommodation the extensive use of louvres and flow through ventilation keeps rooms cool in most all conditions.
8. The resort uses composting of a means of reducing waste, which in turn provides natural fertilising for the grounds of the resort.
9.
Throughout the grounds of the resort, our gardens have been flourishing with new planting of predominately native flora.
All these measures equate a real conciousness of human impact on our pristine waters of Edgcumbe Bay which are home to a diverse marine life including whales, dolphins, dugongs, turtles, manta rays, and many species of fish. Adjacent to the resort is a variety of ecological systems - the mangroves of the Gregory River to the south and the forests and myriad bays of Gloucester Island National Park to the north. Some smaller islands in the North Whitsundays region are easily reached by small boat in less than one hour including Rattray, Saddleback, and Middle.
Cape Gloucester Eco-Resort is a member of the Land for Wildlife organisation.
